OUR STORY

It started with a wife, Iris, and a husband, Tony, who loved to cook.

(And let’s be honest, they each were looking for a fulfilling way out of retail and landscaping.)

With one hope: To share traditional Mexican food made with love, our own flavors, and with a modern touch to the community for years to come.

But why? Because to us it means, everything fresh; fresh ingredients, hand-pressed tortillas, sauces made in small batches, and fresh cut meat, all in house…even if sometimes that means we have to take a little extra time and care because of it. That’s what comes with making food from the heart.

So in March of 2010, we opened the first La Raza at the corner of Acushnet and Bullard in New Bedford, Massachusetts. With $10,000 made up of some of our savings, some money from out mother belief and a close family friend, and of course belief in how good our food and service would be.

Before long La Raza quickly became the hot spot for cold drinks, fresh Mexican food and staple on the Ave where quality of the food and service made it worth the wait.

With business booming, we decided in September of 2020, it was time to move to a bigger location, and add more people to our family. With that we moved to the top of Acushnet Ave with plenty of seating and a spot your can’t miss.

And today, you’re welcome to feel more at home here than on your own couch. Just let us know what you want whether it’s on the menu, or not, enjoy your experience with us.
